Many emotions of mine were provoked when reading The Art of Noise by John Cage. It made me think about many things and put them into perspective. When he states “There is no such thing as silence” made me think that even on the most peaceful of days there is still going to be some sound. Without sound, we would most likely go crazy. All around there are noises whether it is nature or humans making the noise. Some people can hear bodily functions within their body which makes it even more impossible to hear silence. People are mindful of the natural setting and how every listening experience is unique when it comes to different musical compositions. Not only can someone hear something completely different depending on the composition or take something different from it by interpretation. When I look back at the times I interpreted different songs and look back to the people around me who were interpreting it in a completely different way of thinking. I create noise by typing on this keyboard right now or taking a deep breath will also make a noise. At all times we are surrounded by a symphony of sounds that are all working together and it is our mindset that interprets what we are hearing. I have never personally had this outlook on life but I think this has the potential to change the outlook have on life. I can change my perspective to be more positive outlook at the noises I hear day to day.
